Tasting note
This is remembered: Its fine amber yellow pleases the eye first and then the mind. Yattarna Chardonnay South Eastern's refreshing scent spectrum of passion fruit, peach and almond shows complex aroma character and lots of finesse. The dominant nuances of lemon, lime and apple create their individual texture. With a slim body and dominant acidity, this fruity white wine presents its flawless quality. This top wine received the award: Robert Parker 2015:95 points.
Culinary recommendation
Our recommendation: The white wine tastes best at a slightly chilled 10°-12°C. The wine should be enjoyed during this period: 5-8 years. Recommended by Flaschenpöstlern: Yattarna Chardonnay South Eastern goes well with fish with herbs, asparagus and goat cheese.
Vinification
The vinification took place as follows: Yattarna Chardonnay is the flagship among Penfolds white wines. Penfolds's efforts and winemaking philosophy inspired them to create a white wine that could one day rival the red Penfolds Grange. Yattarna reflects Penfolds's patience and relentless commitment to this goal. The name Yattarna is originally derived from the Aboriginal people and translates as “always a bit further, gradually.” Each vintage shows another chance to improve quality. Aged for eight months in French oak barrels (62% new and 38% 1 year old). The grapes come from the regions of Tasmania (Coal Valley and Derwent Valley) and Adelaide Hills.
