About the wine
The history of the winery dates back to the middle of the 19th century. In 1993, Mona Bastgen and her husband Armin Vogel took over the vineyards - privileged steep slate slopes near Bernkastel and Kesten - and founded their own estate in Vienna. They cultivate just 5 ha, but with all the more care, a lot of manual work and organic (certified). Nature is also given plenty of space in the cellar, and this is how much-noticed Rieslings (and other things) are created at the small Bastgen winery far away from mainstream: transparent, precise, vibrating.

Tasting note
Knows what anyone wants - and can hardly wait. Bright and open-minded, confident character, benevolent, ripe pear, lots of flowers, but also energetic, forward-looking, mineral, stones. On the palate with lots of zest for action, it becomes more relaxed, balanced, mild acidity, fine fruit sweetness, and is slightly tart and salty. An excellent food companion - neutral and full of life!
Culinary recommendation
Perfect with seafood, fried poultry, asparagus dishes or mild cheeses such as Camembert.
Vinification
Selective reading by hand. Slow fermentation with the vineyard's own yeasts, even in 1000 l fuder.
