About the wine
Sunny and fertile landscapes of the coastal region give us these grapes, from which the winemaker from the South African winery Gabrielskloof conjures up this red wine with refinement and experience. Tasting note
Crushed blueberries, black plums and mixed spices guide the nose, while the palate feels a fresh, minty herbal note and an olive tapenade texture. The characteristic chalky tannins keep the wine in perfect balance.

Goes well with spicy Asian dishes or even red meat.
Vinification
The On Sandstone location is mountainous and consists of broken sandstone, which makes winegrowing unbelievable difficulties. This relentless environment results in a natural low growth rate and minimal yields. The result is a complex, unique wine. The grapes were picked by hand and placed in small lie boxes directly into the Gabrielskloof cold room, where they stayed overnight. Around 60% of the harvest was destemmed, the rest remained as whole grapes. The wine was fermented spontaneously in small, open fermentation containers and left on the skins for a long time after fermentation. The wine aged in 500-liter barrels for 18 months, using 10% new French oak.
