The Primitivo di Manduria from Pliniana is a winner. It boasts gold medals at both Mundus Vini and the Berlin Wine Trophy. We were also bowled over by its quality. This is definitely a wine that you can serve to your guests. By the way, we have a few more "Guess what?!" facts about Primitivo, which are great to share with the wine in a social gathering. Let's start with the name: it has nothing to do with being primitive, of course. In fact, it is derived from the Latin word for "early maturity". Even if you might have come up with some other associations after a tipple or two ... If you were to ask people about the origin of the grape variety, the answer would almost certainly be Italy. In fact, it comes from Croatia. Another surprise: probably the best culinary recommendation for Primitivo is dark chocolate. One thing is for sure, in Switzerland, the land of chocolate, we are crazy about this variety. It is estimated that we drink over one million litres of it every year. Enough to fill an average swimming pool! What a waste that would be ... we're just kidding thankfully! A customer asks: "Is Primitivo a light wine?" The winemaker: "Of course! So light that you only notice it when you fall off your chair!" Would you like to pick up more entertaining but also useful knowledge? In which case, make sure you enter our competition to win a very special wine course!
