About the wine

The Atalayas de Golban winery is located in the unique wild and beautiful Atauta Valley in the province of Soria. This eastern part is about 400 to 500 m higher and is therefore one of the coolest areas in Ribera del Duero. The grapes ripen several weeks later than in the other provinces in Ribera del Duero, which gives the wines a unique finesse and freshness. The renowned Spanish wine merchant Miguel Sánchez, whose family comes from the region, was the first to recognize the great, untapped potential of the Autata Valley. Within a few years, he acquired the best sites with very old, root-rich Tempranillo vines and founded the two wineries Dominio de Atauta (2000) and Atalayas de Golban (2004). Even Miguel Sánchez and his children Emma and Miguel Ángel, who run the winery, were surprised by the rapid success and excellent qualities already in the early years. Today, it is considered one of the best terroirs in Ribera del Duero.
