About the wine

Since winery manager and Master of Wine Roman Horvath and winemaker Heinz Frischengruber steered the fortunes of Domäne Wachau, the winery and its winemaker families have captured a barely known dynamic. Within a very short period of time, they became the big players on the Danube, not least due to an ingenious vineyard program and meticulous quality work. Tribute is paid to the steepness and height of the terraces, and individual layers are processed separately. Manual harvesting and targeted selection are the basis for perfect grape material. The result is a unique range of different Valtellina and Rieslings, which have long since amazed the international wine world.

Tasting note
Bright golden yellow in the glass. Expressive on the nose with distinct floral notes, vineyard peach, fresh culinary herbs and spicy notes, white pepper, smoky minerality. On the palate, then dense and concentrated. Enormous extract density and a touch of exoticism in a nice balance with fresh acidity. Long mineral-spicy aftertaste. Grüner Veltliner Achleiten is one of the Wachau wines with the longest shelf life.
Culinary recommendation
Vinification
Achleiten is a legendary single location (also known as a vineyard in Austria) on the outskirts of Weissenkirchen. Dry stone walls from the 12th century, which secure the silicate-rich trellis floors, characterize this prime location. Below is the bright Gföhler gneiss in the upper part. Dark, often slate amphibolite rocks emerge on the lower slope. Grüner Veltliner von der Ried Achleiten is characterized by reduced yields (6,500 kg/ha) due to the poor soils. The Veltliner grapes for this emerald are harvested by hand several times and after strict selection. After several hours of maceration, it is gently pressed. After (sometimes spontaneous) fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine is also aged in large wooden storage barrels for a few months after initial storage in steel tanks.
