About the wine
After the war, the name “Alsace” was introduced by the 1945 decree drawn up by the Association of Alsatian Winemakers (Association des Viticulteurs d'Alsace). But it wasn't until 1962 that the AOP designation was officially recognized with a decree. Alsace is an approximately 110 kilometers long strip in northeast France, near the Rhine, on the border with Germany and about 500 kilometers southeast of Paris. In the west, the region is protected by the Vosges Mountains, making the climate here warmer and drier than in the neighboring regions of France and Germany. It is divided into two departments, the Bas-Rhin (Lower Rhine) in the north, near Strasbourg, and the Haut-Rhin (Upper Rhine) further south, which is favored by a better location and more favourable climatic conditions.
