About the wine

The winemaker from the South African winery Carinus Vineyards absolutely masters his craft. Elegance and finesse are the characteristics of this white wine, which originates in the sunny and graceful landscape of the Coastal region. If we can recommend anything for New Year's Eve 2021, it's definitely this strong white wine 2020 — Carinus Chenin Blanc Rooidraai. Flaschenpöstler tip: Combine this chenin blanc with pretzel sticks or meatballs with tomato sauce.

Tasting note
On the nose, this wine shows notes of yellow apple, peach and lemongrass, accompanied by subtle notes of honeydew melon. On the palate, it has a wonderfully controlled heaviness that lasts a long time, preserves the purity of the fruit and brings out the cherished salty energy of the vineyard.
Culinary recommendation
Great with squid with chilli and wasabi aioli, tuna with avocado, lime and edamame, or crostinis with poached figs and goat cheese.
Vinification
Winegrowing is the primary concern of cousins Danie and Hugo Carinus, and when you add in their close relationship with Lukas Van Loggerenberg, South Africa's “rock star winemaker,” you get something absolutely delicious. Danie and Hugo grow their grapes in Devon Valley, Polkadraai and Swartland and supply some of the leading wine producers with these coveted grapes. They are 5th generation winemakers and are also “Wine Cellar Young Guns”. The grapes for this Chenin Blanc come directly from the Rooidraai Farm in Swartland. We work with exceptional winemakers to produce our limited range, prioritizing quality over quantity. These wines are produced with minimal intervention to honor the terroir in which the vines are rooted. These wines are aged in natural vessels, including old French oak barrels and concrete egg fermentation containers. This wine was aged in aged French wooden barrels for 10 months.
