Tasting note
This Blaufränkisch pleases with its dark ruby red. The nose is dominated by aromas of wild berry jam, black cherries, floral components, spicy notes of coffee and some licorice and a touch of orange zest. On the palate, the wine is strong, dense and full-bodied with lots of fruit. At the same time, its youthful and straight acid structure makes it look quite cool and elegant. The fine-grained and silky tannins result in an extremely juicy and long-lasting finish. A typical and extremely harmonious Blaufränkisch that is great fun when drunk young but can easily lie dormant in the cellar for another decade. With 93 points from Falstaff, he is one of the highest-rated Blaufränkans from the top class of 2015.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with Austrian specialities, Sunday roasts, beef and veal, game specialities, ripe hard cheeses.
Vinification
The grapes for this wine come from Deutschkreutz's prime location Ried Goldberg, which has been considered the best location in the region for centuries. The south-west facing hillside has clayey clay soil with a high percentage of limestone and limestone and excellent water storage capacity. After manual harvesting, the grapes are spontaneously fermented in steel tanks before the wine biodegrades in small wooden barrels and is left on the yeast for approx. 2-4 months. It is then aged in 300-liter French oak barrels for approx. 10 months.
