About the wine
The ancestors of the Fontana family began cultivating vines in the hills around Castiglione Falletto, the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, over 400 years ago. The family's current winery was built in 1820 and is run by Livia and her children Michele and Lorenzo. Livia took over the winery from her father, which was unusual. She confidently renamed it from “Ettore Fontana” to “Livia Fontana.” The family is characterized by extraordinary foresight: As early as the 1960s, Ettore supplied its customers in Switzerland with its delivery van, a tradition that is still lived on today.

Tasting note
In my nose, I develop a complex bouquet — cocoa beans and dried roses, plus juniper and roasted coffee aromas. On the palate, I am powerful with present tannins. My finish remains soft and elegant and enhances the drinking experience with a lasting length that seems to have no end. It's a true masterpiece.
Culinary recommendation
I particularly enjoy hearty dishes such as fried wild boar or beef with ponzu sesame sauce and Cavolo Nero, to beef rib in red wine or a stew dish.
Vinification
My grapes grow in the legendary Barolo vineyard in Bussia. The heavy, clayey marl soil gives me strength and density, and my structure supports me for decades. Thanks to my orientation to the southwest, the sun gives me rich fruit and abundance. After careful fermentation, I rest in large oak barrels for 53 months. Time there gives me complexity, depth and balance. I only produce around 2500 bottles a year — a real rarity.
