Tasting note
The Woftrap White spoils the nose with a strong and intense bouquet of lush stone fruit aromas such as peach, nectarine and yellow plums, as well as with fine notes of angelica, fine spices, honeydew melon, papaya, poached pears and a touch of exotic dragon fruit and lime. A medium-weight wine with stunning elegance and lively, sparkling and well-integrated acidity. Clean and dry on the middle palate with delicious nuances of crunchy green apples and tangerines on a refreshing aftertaste.
Culinary recommendation
It is particularly good to drink with seafood and crustaceans.
Vinification
The majority of the components for this fascinating blend come from the renowned Swartland region in the western Cape, and lower yields due to the prolonged drought resulted in wines with exceptional taste and texture. Viognier was the leading component this year with its rich texture and floral aromas, while Chenin Blanc is essentially the backbone, contributing to a lively, fruity palate and a crisp, spicy finish. Grenache Blanc gives an attractive green, dille-like character and elegance, and our decision to increase this component for our 2019 assemblage was worth it. As always, oak is used very sparingly to support our wealth of fruit and only to create a layered, more harmonious wine, adding complexity to this delicate blend rather than overwhelming it.
