About the wine

If you want to surprise a wine connoisseur, then with this dominant Cabernet Sauvignon Vinya La Scala Gran Reserva! To get a feel for the barren landscape in Catalonia, there is no way around this red wine, which the Spanish winery Jean León masters with a keen sense of texture. Culinary tip from Flaschenpöstler: This Cabernet Sauvignon is very good to serve with red meat or pizza with mushrooms.

Tasting note
Produced in limited quantities, this Gran Reserva is only bottled in exceptional vintages. The Vinya La Scala vineyard, a small 8-hectare plot, was planted in 1963 and is the first Spanish wine made primarily from the Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety. Vinya La Scala was selected as the official wine for Ronald Reagan's inauguration at the White House in 1981. His name is an homage to Jean Leon's restaurant that he ran in Beverly Hills during Hollywood's Golden Age. The label of each new year depicts the work of a renowned artist. The wine has a deep garnet to cherry red color in the glass with ripe, rust-red brightenings on the edge. On the nose, elegant aromas of precious woods on a background of dark fruits and spices. Very elegant, complex and typical of the grape variety on the palate too - softly balanced with harmoniously integrated tannins and delicately spicy roasted notes that last a long time on the finish. It goes particularly well with beef and game. Also with dark poultry and medium-strong or smoked cheese.
Culinary recommendation
Flaschenpöstler-Tipp: Vinya La Scala Gran Reserva passt perfekt zu Pizza mit Pilzen, rotem Fleisch und Gruyère Burger.
Vinification
All grapes for this Gran Reserva grow on the barren, stony soils of the 8-hectare individual “La Scala” vineyard. After a 2-week maceration period, fermentation in stainless steel tanks and biological acid decomposition, the wine was aged for 2 years in new French barriques. After bottling, it matured in the bottle for another 5 years to develop its perfect harmony.
