Truly an exceptional gem: the Tacuil winery is located in the Salta wine region, more remote than remote “in the middle of nowhere” in Argentina's northern Andes. Since 1827, Raoul Dávalos' family has owned this vineyard, which is located higher than the Säntis at around 2600 m — the highest in production in the world! The air here is just as pure as the mineral-rich Andean water is crystal clear. The very large differences between day and night temperatures are responsible for the proverbial freshness of the wines. The vines here hardly need to fear pests either. Not even phylloxera and so rootless vines were planted when replanting the “Dávalos” vineyard between 1995 and 2000. The two varieties Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon are planted here as a “mixed set”. They are harvested and processed together. The extreme altitude, the intensive solar radiation or the strong UV light and the very dry weather produce very small, thick-skinned berries. This gives the wine the necessary tannin structure from the berry skins and does not age in wooden barrels. The Viñas da Dávalos, a blend of mostly Malbec with Cabernet Sauvignon, is the winery's flagship quality. Organic vineyard processing, spontaneous fermentation, aging without wood, bottled unfiltered. Great aging potential, patience is rewarded. An absolute rarity worldwide, an annual production is only 3,000 bottles!
