About the wine

Guglielmo Gialdi founded Gialdi Vini SA in Mendrisio in 1953, which is now managed by son Feliciano and, thanks to his commitment, is one of the top winegrowing companies in Ticino. Thanks to continuous investments in the wineries in Mendrisio and Bodio, the company today vinifies a total of almost 1 million kilograms of grapes annually from over 300 winemakers in Lower Leventina, the Riviera and the Blenio Valley. The wide range of Gialdi products consists primarily of Sopraceneri wines. Some of the wine cellars are built into the mountains to take advantage of the circulating air flows in the Monte Generoso massif. In this ideal climate, barrique barrels mature the best Gialdi wines.

Tasting note
Intense ruby red color. Intense, persistent scent of plums, blackberries and amarena cherries, followed by elegant balsamic notes of licorice. Taste full, soft and very complex. Dense body and large structure, with well-integrated ripe tannins. Harmonious, with a good balance. A powerful wine that masterfully combines power and elegance. Fresh aftertaste with menthol notes and very good persistence.
Culinary recommendation
Flaschenpöstler-Tipp: Trentasei Merlot DOC Gialdi Mendrisio Ticino passt bestens zu Ente, leicht scharfem, rotem Fleisch und Geflügel.
Vinification
The grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness and stored in small boxes in a cool, well-ventilated area for 15 days. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 28-32 °C, followed by a further 15 days on the mash. Biological acid degradation (malolactic fermentation) took place in French barriques, where the “36” was aged for 36 months. The “Trentasei” was bottled without refinement, cold stabilization and unfiltered.
