About the wine
The history of “Quinta do Vallado” dates back to 1716. Exactly one century later - in 1818 - the estate was sold to the Ferreira family, who still manage it today in the seventh generation. Located close to the Douro River, the area benefits from excellent climatic conditions. After a major renovation in 1994, the estate today comprises 64 hectares, 38 of which are newly planted vineyards. In addition to the existing winery, a completely new building with the latest technology was also built in 1997. The winery also includes a hotel, which has already received several awards from the tourism industry.

Tasting note
Typical of ripe touriga, bergamot, wild fruits, with floral nuances (violets) and spices. Elegant, with lots of fruit and tannins. Long and very fresh aftertaste.
Culinary recommendation
Our recommendation: The ideal drinking temperature for red wine is a slightly chilled 15°-18°C. The ideal drinking phase of this wine is in the following period: medium shelf life (5-8 years and longer).
Vinification
A few words about vinification: The grapes were planted in 1994 and with the 2005 vintage there is enough quantity to bottle this wine for the first time. The small-berry grapes are fermented in steel tanks and the malolactic fermentation also takes place in steel tanks. In Nov., the young wine is transferred to new 225lt barriques and matures there for 18 months until bottled. The annual production is 40,000 bottles.
