About the wine
Rooted vines have become a rarity on the European continent. In the late 19th century, the phylloxera epidemic destroyed most grape vineyards in Europe. There are only a few hectares left today from before phylloxera. The family-run Sotero Pintado winery is one of the privileged companies that were able to purchase ancient vineyards in the province of Zamora. The vines were planted undrafted in 1878 and are now real wine jewels. The more than 145 years old root-based vines only produce small yields, which is reflected in exceptional quality and concentration. The name Totem is derived from the so-called totem poles, which have a historic character among the Indians in the Northwest Coast culture of North America. The Bravucón Crianza 2020 was awarded 90 points by the prestigious Guía Peñin.
