About the wine
With experience and intuition, the winemaker from the Italian winery Folonari masters this red wine in the blooming and fertile Tuscan countryside. If we can recommend anything for New Year's Eve 2018, it's definitely this snappy Prugnolo Gentile 2014 — Torcalvano Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG! The Flaschenpöstler promise a dining experience when you serve this Prugnolo Gentile with porcini risotto or Parma ham.
Tasting note
Intense ruby red with garnet reflections that become more prominent with age. Elegant and complex, with predominant notes of ripe red fruits such as cherry and blackberry, accompanied by delicate floral and spicy nuances, including notes of tobacco, leather and licorice typical of aging. Dry, harmonious and structured, characterized by soft and well-integrated tannins. On the palate, there is a pleasant balance between ripe fruit and freshness, with a long and persistent finish that reveals notes of sweet spices and a slight minerality that reflects the terroir.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with red meats, roasts, game, mushroom dishes and aged cheese. Also ideal with traditional Tuscan pasta dishes such as pici with wild boar ragout or pappardelle with rabbit ragout.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, with extended maceration to optimally extract the aromatic properties. This is followed by at least 24 months of aging in Slavonian oak barrels and tonneaux, which gives the wine complexity and roundness.
