About the wine
With every vintage of The Max, the aim is to create a wine that has enormous aging potential and round, rich aromas that make it possible to enjoy the wine in its youth. It is a Bordeaux-style blend that consists of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc and 10% Malbec. All components were picked when fully ripe to ensure that the tannins are firm and grippy, but also round and grumpy. The four varieties were aged for 28 months in a combination of 40% new and 60% French oak barrels with second and third fillings before being blended and bottled. 2016 was an exceptional vintage for Franschhoek red wines.

Tasting note
The nose offers dark red berries, a wonderful cigar box and caramelized blackberry aromas with some red pepper, which show New World fruits paired with Old World winemaking techniques. On the palate, there are sweet, concentrated, ripe red fruits paired with large, well-integrated tannins and a bright, elegant finish and just a hint of oak.
Culinary recommendation
It is ideal with game dishes, beef stew or a hearty lentil stew with bacon — aged cheeses such as Manchego or old Gouda also complement it perfectly.
