Tasting note
The wine shows intense white peach and pear drops on the nose, which continue to stone fruit on the palate, supported by clean mineral lines and yeast-coated acidity.
Culinary recommendation
A great accompaniment to Thai green curries or spicy Indian dishes served with buttered naan bread. It is also an ideal wine for fried tuna in black pepper crust on wild herb salad.
Vinification
Chenin Blanc is not only widely recognized as a breakthrough grape variety for South Africa, but also for ArtiSons — the production of Chenin Blanc from the old 1964 bush vines planted on decomposed granite in the Bottelary Hills was a ticking time bomb, and the result of these unwatered vineyards is The Mothership. The grapes are harvested between 22 and 24 Oechsle and are in contact with the skin for 6 to 12 hours. The wine is stored in barrels and concrete eggs for slow fermentation with wild yeasts and, after fermentation is complete, blended in concrete eggs for up to 12 months of aging on the yeast.
