About the wine
The Bodegas Callia - created in 2003 when the Salentein Family of Wines group bought a small winery with its Syrah vineyards, which Carlos Pulenta had established in the 90s where the Tulum Valley borders the desert; at the foot of the Sierra Pie de Palo at 650 meters altitude in the province of San Juan. San Juan is the land of Syrah in Argentina. Of the 182 hectares that Pulenta planted, 124 hectares consist of Syrah vines. In this vineyard alone, there are four different Syrah clones, all unrefined. Grapes from a new 28-hectare vineyard, which is located at an enormous 1400 meters above sea level, are also used. The impressive new winery building, designed by well-known architects Bórmida y Yanzón, was literally built over the small old winery so that the old cement/epoxy fermentation tanks could be used. The winery is equipped with state of the art technology.
