Light lemon yellow — just the start on the nose impresses with extremely precise fruit notes of green apples, pears, peaches, limes and lemons. This is accompanied by aromas of fresh hay, wildflowers and white blossoms as well as nutty notes of nougat or roasted almonds. On the palate, too, the wine impresses with an unprecedented presence in the form of perfect acidity, which keeps the luscious fruit extract and outstanding structure in check and perfectly balances them. Notes of honeybush, yellow plums and a subtle smokiness reminiscent of gunpowder lead to a long, precise finish. As the actual “business card” of Thorne & Daughters, the “Rocking Horse 2023" is composed as follows: 30% Roussanne, 28% Chenin Blanc, 20% Chardonnay, 15% Sémillon and 7% Clairette Blanche.
