Tasting note
Barrel 13 delights on the nose with profound aromas of ripe stone fruit, lemongrass, passion fruit, slightly ethereal notes, some mint, lavender and violets. On the palate, again, lots of fruit like lime, pink grapefruit, some herbal tea and eucalyptus, a vife acid structure, a complex and mineral structure and a wonderful interplay of refinement, freshness and fruit. A wonderfully intense Saar Riesling with lots of charm and class, which is great fun from a young age but will probably only show its true potential in 5-15 years.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with poultry, light dishes with veal, freshwater fish, exotic dishes, spicy starters, cheese specialities or simply for pure enjoyment
Vinification
The grapes for this large plant of almost 55-year-old vines, which grow on a fine slate soil on a south-southeast location with a 65% slope, located directly on the Saar. In the vineyard, particular emphasis is placed on integrated and environmentally friendly management as well as late and very selective harvesting. After the obligatory whole grape pressing with partial mashing, the must is traditionally fermented spontaneously after preliminary clarification in large wooden barrels and aged for 6 months on the lees, with occasional battonage. The wine has approx. 5.4 grams of residual sugar and 6.7 grams of acid per liter and a moderate alcohol content of 12.5% by volume.
