The Bertani family looks back on a history spanning generations; their ancestors founded the winery in the 16th century and managed it up to modern times. A few years ago, part of the family split off and set up their own business with the magnificent Tenuta Santa Maria. With his Azienda, Gaetano Bertani, the father of the two young patrons Giovanni and Guglielmo, has mapped out a path that is considered a role model today, in that the Azienda concentrates entirely on the old local grape varieties and cultivates an exemplary vineyard. Pràgal is the generally more traditional Tenuta Santa Maria's answer to the tastes of younger wine lovers, with a portion of Merlot and Syrah complementing the local Corvina and adding a fruity-spicy character to the whole. The grapes are vinified partially dried. Fermentation and maceration lasts up to 15 days, followed by aging in large oak barrels in the old wine cellars in Arbizzano di Negrar. The aromas are flattering fruity, reminiscent of red fruits, dried roses and black cherries, spicy. On the palate, a lot of melting plays with refreshing acidity. The tannins are supple and soft.
