About the wine
Paolo Panerai's Chianti wines follow the ideal of preserving and counting traditional grapes and methods (nonetheless!) Like only a few of the traditional style - where no Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah are used for upholstery - at its best. But this in no way prevents Panerai from growing Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon and making absolutely great wines from them. The presented Poggio ai Merli shows what potent, juicy, extremely opulent Merlot wines can thrive in the Chianti Classico region. And how much they can change the character of Chianti when they become part of it.

Paolo Panerai was one of the pioneers of modern Chianti Classico, but in contrast to many “modernists” who also use international grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet, etc. for their wines to the extent permitted to give them a touch more richness, he limits himself to authentic Tuscan grape varieties. But this in no way prevents Panerai from growing Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon and making absolutely great wines from them.
