About the wine

The provocative red wine 2013 — Merlot Vinya Palau Penedes do is the missing puzzle piece on your wine rack. To get a feel for Catalonia's barren landscape beauty, there is no way around this red wine, which the Spanish winery Jean León masters with a keen sense of texture. Flaschenpöstler culinary tip: This Merlot is ideal to serve with slightly spicy red meat or poultry.

Tasting note
The Vinya Palau commemorates Jean Leon's origins and pays tribute to his hometown Santander, the starting point for a life marked by exceptional success. In the glass, the wine shows a shiny purple-ruby red. In the bouquet, the delicate vanilla notes of barrique rice blend with fruity aromas of sweet-ripened berries, cherries and herbal-spicy notes. On the palate, the wine is first slender and silky before becoming denser and spicier. It always remains elegant and supple with soft tannin and a fine balance of sweet fruit (berries and cherries again), fresh acidity and elegantly integrated oak wood. Long aftertaste with a slightly spicy aftertaste. It goes wonderfully with stews or even with medium-strength cheeses (Comté, Manchego, etc.).
Culinary recommendation
Our recommendation: The perfect drinking temperature for the red wine is a slightly chilled 16°-18°C. The wine should be enjoyed during this period: Now until 2016. Flaschenpöstler-Tipp: Goes well with poultry, duck and slightly spicy red meat.
Vinification
The pure Merlot from the single vineyard 'Vinya Palau' is bottled in limited quantities of 22,000 to 26,000 bottles per year. The 10-hectare “Vinya Palau” has both limestone and clay soils. Sand and gravel formations can also be found. After harvesting and careful destemming, the Merlot grapes are fermented on the mash at controlled temperatures. The wines are then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, then bottled and aged further in the bottle.
