About the wine
The landscape in Catalonia is barren, whose breathtaking expanses don't fit on a poster, but in a bottle. With a lot of feeling and experience, the winemaker from the Spanish winery Jean León ensures that his craft inspires and convinces you. With the distinctive red wine 2016 — Merlot Petit Verdot 3055, nuances and accents are redefined. Flaschenpöstler tip: Combine this Merlot with duck or poultry.
Tasting note
Deep cherry red with bluish-purple reflections in the glass. On the nose, fine notes of sweet-ripened and candied fruits with soft roasted and spicy aromas due to the short barrique maturation. On the palate, it is both soft and powerful. The fine notes of candied fruit spices persist from the nose. The elegant, finely aged tannins give the wine a nice length in the finish. It goes well with grilled meat, fish and poultry, cold platters and soft cheeses.
Culinary recommendation
It goes well with grilled meat, lamb dishes, spicy stews or aged hard cheese.
Vinification
The Merlot and Petit Verdot vines grow on moist limestone soils and clay soils on limestone substrates. The harvest starts at the beginning of September, followed by fermentation within three weeks at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks. After 15 days of maceration, during which they remove a lot of color, dense aromas and soft tannin from the berry skins, the wines are aged for five months in 225 liter French oak barriques. Bottling at the end of April followed by a short rest period.
