The grapes for Marsala Superiore Riserva Semisecco 2009 are harvested by hand at advanced maturity to ensure a rich sugar and polyphenol profile. After traditional pressing with a high sugar content, in which valuable substances are transferred from the skins into the must, controlled fermentation takes place. This is followed by wine, cooked must and mistella, i.e. grape must whose fermentation was stopped by the addition of wine alcohol, supplemented by a small addition of pure wine alcohol. This is how the basis of Marsala is created. The actual character of this wine develops through its extraordinary aging process. From July 9, 2009, the Marsala passed through various older wooden containers before being placed in a single large barrel with a capacity of 317 liters in March 2019. It is located around 218 meters from the sea in the historic Cantina Garibaldi. Under the influence of maritime air, natural air circulation and the special microclimates of the Baglio vaults, the wine continued to mature and gained depth and balance over the years. During this long storage period, the so-called Angel's Share played a central role. Around 30 percent of the wine evaporated, significantly increasing concentration and aromatic intensity. At the end of this aging process, 2,870 bottles could be filled from the single barrel. The result is a limited, almost rare edition that impressively underlines the uniqueness of this Marsala Superiore.
