In the “estate” of the Heitz family, the new owner Gaylon Lawrence, together with Brittany Sherwood (winemaker since 2011), found four bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon 1969 called Lot C-91. They discovered that it was a cuvée made from various Napa Valley vineyards. This was common all over the valley back then and yet Joe Heitz had only made this wine once. Brittany Sherwood and the Lawrence family now want to make this a tradition. Brittany put together a perfect blend from barrels from her vineyards in Oakville (Martha's Vineyard), Rutherford (Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon), St. Helena (Trailside) and Howell Mountain (Linda Falls) and succeeded in a perfect blend of the various vineyards. The various wines were first aged separately for two years. This was followed by another maturing period of a good three years in barriques. The result is the typical Heitz Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, which embodies the elegance, robustness, refinement and balance of the various sites that are unique to Napa Valley.
