Irpinia Aglianico Cinque Querce DOC 2020 - Salvatore Molettieri

The Salvatore Molettieri vines are located on Montemarano, in the heart of the Taurasi appellation at up to 550 m above sea level. Of course, everything is harvested by hand, neither grapes nor wine are purchased. DOC Irpinia comprises around 300 hectares of vineyards, Greco and Fiano are the main white varieties, Aglianico the red. Irpinia must consist of at least 85% of the named grape variety, the rest can be supplemented by other varieties approved in the province of Avellino. Salvatore Molettieri uses some Piedirosso and Cabernet Sauvignon, which makes for a medium-weight wine that shows a floral-fruity bouquet. The grapes come from the Cinque Querce vineyard from vines whose yield is significantly reduced. It is the younger vines that produce this fresh-flowery yet luscious wine. After pressing in steel tanks, it matures for 24 months in large oak barrels and barriques before being bottled. The finished and ripe wine shows an opulent bouquet of dark berries. On the palate, it appears robust, very “winey”, with tannins perfectly woven into a rich richness.
