About the wine
The Iona winery is located in the Elgin wine-growing region. Where you think you've finally lost your way, another 20 km and you come straight to the former apple farm. Andrew Gunn and his family bought the beautiful farm in 1997. With their great motivation and commitment, they renovated the property and turned it into a beautiful wine farm. The name Iona comes from the legendary island of the same name west of Scotland. The Gunn family can trace their roots back to the time when the Vikings landed in Scotland in 900.

Tasting note
Due to the long aging period, this wine develops a precise, elegant style. Intense bouquet of red & black berries, white pepper and some herbs. Medium to full-bodied with lively fruit, clear acidity and fine, supple tannin structure. An expressive, balanced Syrah with elegance and complexity, typical of cool terroir, is strong but not overloaded, with a long, juicy aftertaste.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with grilled lamb, game dishes (e.g. deer) seasoned with herbs and pepper. Braised meat dishes, bobotie (South African meatloaf) or beef ragouts with deep, complex aromas support the peppery and spicy component in the glass.
