About the product

This deliciously fruity and rich 21-year-old whisky from the 2023 edition was created from just 48 barrels — including 25 first-fill quarter casks made from sherry-soaked American oak wood, 15 refill butts and 8 first-fill hogsheads made from sherry-soaked European oak. All barrels were stored in 2001 and 2002 and carefully selected by our Master Whisky Maker Gordon Motion. By combining these three cask types, Gordon has created an outstanding single malt Scotch whisky that is equally rich and fascinatingly complex.

Tasting note
A particularly rich whiskey was created from 14 hand-picked barrels. A combination of European sherry, ex-bourbon and refill barrels gives the single malt the ideal combination of color, flavor and finish. Limited creation made from a total of 36 ex-bourbon-first-fill sherry barrels made from European and American oak and ex-Rioja barrels, all stored between 1998 and 2001 and handpicked by Gordon Motion, the High-land Park Master Whiskey Maker.
Vinification
Scotland's northernmost distillery The Highland Park distillery is located on the Orkney Islands off the northernmost tip of Scotland. Their whiskeys, as well as their island home, are shaped by the wild climate, the stormy seas and the Vikings, who settled here over 1,000 years ago and left their mark on people and culture. Magnus Eunson, founder of Highland Park was a direct descendant of the Vikings. Butchers and church workers by day, smugglers by night, he distilled in a small hut near High Park with a view of Kirkwall — where the distillery still stands today. Officially, Highland Park was founded in 1798, but in reality this was the year in which the authorities were finally able to catch Magnus — whiskey had already been made before that. With the exception of smuggling, very little has changed since then. Highland Park remained true to its founder's high quality standards and shares with him his bold and uncompromising approach. In fact, you could say that Highland Park is a whiskey made the old way by a new generation of Vikings. The five pillars of Highland Park are: aromatic peat, hand-malted barley, sherry oak barrels, cool storage, barrel harmonization.
