About the wine

Ever since winery manager and Master of Wine Roman Horvath and cellar master Heinz Frischengruber steered the fortunes of Domäne Wachau, the winery and its winegrowing families have captured a barely known dynamic. Within a very short time, they rose to the big players on the Danube, not least due to a sophisticated vineyard program and meticulous quality work. The steepness and height of the terraces is paid tribute, individual layers are processed separately. Hand picking and targeted selection are the basis for perfect grape material. The result is a unique spectrum of different Valtellina and Rieslings, which have long since amazed the international wine world.

Tasting note
Brilliant yellow in the glass with soft golden reflections. Complex and expressive on the nose. Firm spice, smoky, fine stone fruit aroma, some pineapple, meadow herbs, yellow apple. Very deep and spicy on the palate, textured and with a firm structure. Accurate and powerful with a beautiful acid structure and mineral aftertaste. Subtle, long aftertaste with fine spice and salty depth. The wine is nice to drink even when young, but has potential for many years.
Culinary recommendation
Recommended by Flaschenpöstlern: Goes well with freshwater fish, paella and poultry. Our recommendation: The perfect drinking temperature for the white wine is slightly chilled 10°-12°C.
Vinification
The steep local mountain of Domäne Wachau rises directly behind the baroque cellar castle. The vineyards are on ancient rock soil — on light Gföhler gneiss, which consists of 90% feldspar and quartz. Some of the floors are covered with loess. The Kellerberg location stands for strong wines due to the increased Pannonian climate influence, but always with fine minerality. The laborious cultivation of the steep stone terrace vineyards and the barren soil reduce the yield to 5,800 kg/ha. Grüner Veltliner grapes from Kellerberg are harvested by hand in repeated harvests and strict selection. After several hours of maceration and (usually spontaneous) fermentation in stainless steel tanks and in large wooden barrels, the wine is also aged for a few months in large wooden storage barrels after initial storage in steel tanks. Vegan certified.
