About the wine
3000 hours of sunshine and very cold winters make over 50-year-old vines full of character. Ego Bodegas is the work of Santos Javier Ortíz Sanz, who, after years in the wine business, was able to realize the dream of having his own bodega in Jumilla. It took him almost a decade to do it, but in 2010 the time had come. The winery, which is located about 25 kilometers from the historic town center of the village of Jumilla, today comprises 25 hectares, 80% of which are planted with the king of this region: the Monastrell grape. There are also Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. As is so often the case in the recent history of Spanish viticulture, it is a very young company, but the vineyards have already had several previous owners and are planted with vines over 50 years old. Ego Bodegas also works according to ecological principles. With over 3000 hours of sunshine, very low rainfall, cold winters and hot summers, the vines at 700 m above sea level are heavily stressed. But that is exactly what makes the grapes so unique.
