About the wine
In 2003, May-Eliane de Lencquesaing finally took over the Glenelly winery as a 76-year-old lady. She owned the famous Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande in Bordeaux for over 30 years. As a French woman, her guiding principle is “South African wine with a French touch.”
Tasting note
The Estate Reserve is the characteristic red assemblage, which is based on the classic Claret blend from the 17th century. Aromas of plums and cherries with mulberries and blackcurrants on the middle palate await you. In the finish, rich tannins and fresh herbs support the range of aromas.
Culinary recommendation
Goes very well with hearty meat dishes and aged cheeses.
Vinification
The grapes were sorted by hand and lightly crushed and transferred to stainless steel tanks and then cold macerated for three days before natural fermentation began. During fermentation, the tanks were pumped around three times a day and the wine was then in prolonged contact with the skin for 2 to 3 weeks. The Estate Red was filled into French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and matured in them for 18 months, refilling every four months on average.
