About the wine

Consistency, expertise and dedication at the same time! Always being above your own expectations is what Glen Carlou strives for with every bottle of wine. Glen Carlou was founded in 1985 and is therefore a relatively young winery that has built up an enviable reputation as one of South Africa's leading producers. Nestled in the heart of the Paarl wine region, with vineyards on the foothills of the famous Simonsberg. Since 2009, the Glen Carlou winery has been managed by Johan Erasmus. Year after year, he and his team do their utmost to deliver the highest quality.

Tasting note
The aromas of ripe blackberries and cherries settle on the palate and frame the complexity of mint and dark chocolate. Fine, silky rounded tannins and a wonderfully lively, pomegranate-like acidity contribute to the volume and weight of the fruit, and give the palate enormous depth and length.
Culinary recommendation
Goes very well with lamb neck with mint sauce and finger carrots or pork neck in tataki marinade with onion apple veloute, babaganoush and grilled leeks or Moroccan lamb shoulder.
Vinification
The farm is located in the Simonsberg foothills in the Paarl region of the Western Cape and includes a variety of slopes. Of the 31 blocks currently planted, each is worked according to its own unique potential, respecting the natural cycles of the vines. A vineyard program of five hectares per year is being implemented to reach a total of 60 hectares, with harder rootstocks and new variety clone selections being planted. Fermented in 10,000 liter open and closed stainless steel tanks with regular pump-overs for two weeks to extract color and tannins. The wine was then stored in second-bottled French oak barrels for 16 months.
