About the wine
Sunny and beautiful landscapes of the coastal region give us these grapes, from which the winemaker from the South African winery Gabrielskloof conjures up this red wine with refinement and sensitivity. If we can offer something special for Easter 2019, it is this dominant red wine 2016 — Gabrielskloof Cabernet Franc Landscape. The Flaschenpöstler promise a culinary experience when you offer this Cabernet Franc with game or ravioli.

Tasting note
Blackberries, licorice and cloves are part of a fragrant vintage that lives with a fresh herbal note that is reminiscent of a bouquet garni. On the palate, the almond peel texture of the tannins is present again and provides a spicy counterpoint to the lighter, red-fruity notes. An elegant and smooth wine that still has a lot to offer over time.
Culinary recommendation
It goes perfectly with any duck dish.
Vinification
The fruit comes from a single vineyard, a mountain location on the Gabriëlskloof property. The soil is a combination of Overberg Shale and Table Mountain Sandstone, with this complexity being transferred into the wine through a nice mix of fruit and spices. The vineyard is 18 years old and this maturity is reflected in the depth and character of the wine. The grapes were picked by hand and brought directly to our cold room in small lie boxes, where they remained overnight. 100% of the harvest was destemmed, the remaining 10% remained as whole grapes. The wine was fermented spontaneously and aged in 500-liter barrels for 18 months, using 30% new French oak.
