About the wine
What winegrowers have done in Valtellina in the past can be described as truly heroic. The steep slopes of this valley seemed anything but ideal for cultivating vineyards. However, the winegrowers of that time recognized that wonderful grapes would grow in this sun-drenched location if only the opportunity was created. In unbelievable work, they built over 2500 kilometers of dry stone walls on the slopes of the 50-kilometer long wine-growing area. Thousands of stones were used to create one of the largest terraced wine-growing regions in the world. That was over 2,000 years ago! Even today, the Nebbiolo grapes from Valtellina grow on these sunny terraces and are painstakingly harvested by hand, vine by vine. In addition, the Mediterranean climate and excellent soil conditions form further excellent foundations for the production of Veltliner wines. With the Nebbiolo grape, the same type of grape is pressed for the Valtellinas as for the expensive Barolos from Piedmont. In addition to the natural conditions, it also takes a lot of passion and creativity on the part of the people who work in the vineyard and in the cellar to make extract-rich, powerful and at the same time fine wines from this wonderful raw material. At Plozza, creativity was and is an important factor in the company philosophy. Plozza Vini was one of the pioneers in Sforzato production and was the first to sell Sforzato in 1946.
