About the wine

At the beginning of the 60s, José María García fell in love with Milagros Figuero, his lovely neighbor. The marriage of the two created the basis for today's winery, as they were the children of winegrowers and continued this tradition together. For decades, they delivered their grapes to renowned wineries such as Vega Sicilia. In 2001, José María and Milagros fulfilled their dream of producing their own wines together with their three children. Within a short period of time, they established themselves in the top group of the Ribera del Duero. Today, Bodega García Figuero stands for excellent wines that capture the essence of Ribera del Duero and reflect the passion and dedication of the García Figuero family.

Tasting note
Its chic ruby red crowns every festive occasion with style and elegance. You won't find this shade in any color palette. Figuero 12 Crianza DO's fruity bouquet of black cherry, chocolate and cooked blackberry skilfully flirts with your sense of smell. Afterwards, fruity nuances of prune, clove and marmalade decisively and consciously convince your senses of taste. Strong body and fresh acidity result in the fruity red wine, which, with fine tannins in the mouth, shows plenty of character and class.
Culinary recommendation
Our recommendation: Drink this red wine at a slightly chilled 16°-18°C. The ideal drinking phase of this wine is in the following period: 2-8 years after the harvest. Flaschenpöstler tip: Figuero 12 Crianza DO goes perfectly with pizza, red meat, and polenta.
Vinification
A few words about vinification: After manual harvesting and careful transport to the winery, the grapes are destemmed and then cold macerated for 2 days at 12°C. After temperature-controlled fermentation, the wine remains on the skins for a further 10 days. During this time, the must is pumped over the mash daily to achieve good tannin and color extraction. The young wine is then aged around 12 months in 1 to 3-year barriques made from 85% American and 15% French oak. Before bottling, the wine is clarified with egg white. The aging of bottles in the bodega takes about a year or longer. According to law, wine may not leave the winery until October 1 of the second year after the harvest.
