With the Cuvée Palatia 2023, Assyrtiko whisperer Matthew Argyros presents a superb new addition to his iconic cuvée series — and what a! This long-awaited premiere combines seven outstanding individual vineyards (including famous names such as Louros and Kavalieros), their ancient vines (120—180 years old!) produce a style that, despite all its radiance, also impresses with elegant fullness and smooth contours. The nose reveals a profound, terroir aroma: fine smoky notes, cool flint minerality and chalky notes, interspersed with Mediterranean herbs such as thyme and caper leaves. There is floral elegance underneath — jasmine, orange blossoms and a touch of lemon zest. On the palate with a precise, exciting start — the vife, pulsating acid structures the full body with crystal-clear definition. And yet everything remains embedded in a remarkable harmony: salty, juicy, with that typical, almost flattering fullness that characterizes Palatia right from the start. In the long, focused finale, it echoes — the generosity of this cuvée, the delicate power of a softer voice in Argyros's heavenly Assyrtiko composition. Complex, expressive and completely committed to the winemaker's philosophy.
