About the wine

Family-owned since 1874, Santa Duc is a permanent institution on the southern Rhone and the leading winery in Gigondas. In 1985, the father gave this treasure to his son Yves Gras. He is an exceptional talent, a traditionalist and visionary. He was one of the first to recognize here that Gigondas could only have a great future by returning to the old virtues. With great vision and his incomparable drive, he has succeeded in bringing out the uniqueness of the terroir again and leading Gigondas out of the shadow of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. For decades, his wines have been reliably among the best in the appellation. They impressively demonstrate that Gigondas not only produce rough, alcoholic and excessive wines, but also fascinating, expressive and rich in finesse.

Tasting note
Untamed nature. Has an unbelievable amount of life, with every bite a new scent seems to blow over, first a bit dry, dusty, then wonderfully fresh, juicy red and black berries, cassis, shrubs, plants, then noble leather and again and again, wild, stallig - just let it be prepared and enjoy. The palate is then more determined, sweet and fresh, does not dream sweet dreams for long, but is passionate and spicy, fresh acidity, peppery, mineral, firm.
Culinary recommendation
Recommended by Flaschenpöstlern: Goes well with game, barbecue and roasted vegetables. Our recommendation: The red wine tastes best at a slightly chilled 16°-17°C.
Vinification
Selective harvest by hand with renewed grape selection at the table in the cellar. Fermentation of partially stemmed berries, aging for 18 months in 3,600L Stockinger oak barrels and in 800L clay amphoras. Unadorned, unfiltered.
