Tasting note
The classic blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon is found in some of the world's most famous wines. In La Motte Millennium 2022, some Petit Verdot adds to the further complexity of the taste and intensity of the color. Aromatic blackberries and plums dominate with nuances of fruitcake and dark toffee, which provide subtle sweetness. The careful aging in barriques gives it a touch of cloves and aromas of charred oak. The 2022 La Motte Millennium has a medium-bodied, soft yet lively tannins and a long-lasting aftertaste of berries.
Culinary recommendation
It goes very well with a South African braai.
Vinification
Each vineyard has its own microclimate, and vineyards grow on a wide variety of soil types. Several clones are represented. All vineyards are fitted with trellises according to the Perold system and have succeeded in maintaining a perfect balance between leaf cover and yield. Thanks to the different terroirs, each region produces its own distinctive grapes, so that the grapes from each region make a unique contribution to taste and structure. The grapes for the wine consist of Merlot (65%), Cabernet Franc (25%), Cabernet Sauvignon (6%) and Petit Verdot (4%). Before and after destemming, all grapes were sorted by hand. The stemmed berries were immediately inoculated with yeast. Fermentation took place at a temperature of between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius while the wine was being pumped around. After fermentation, the wine was left on the turb for another 20 days to improve extraction and the body. The malolactic fermentation took place partly in barrels. The various components are aged separately for 12 months in used 300 liter French oak barrels. The wine is then blended, filtered and bottled.
