Abruzzo is an up-and-coming wine-growing region in the Apennines, which is barely developed in terms of tourism and is of magnificent natural beauty: mountainous, wooded, wild, sparsely populated. The career changers Adriana Galasso, formerly a businesswoman, and Fausto Albanesi, a computer scientist in his previous job, run a small, inherited winery near Loreto Aprutino in the middle of the Abruzzo hills with passion and great competence. Her work focuses on respect for nature and the sustainability of vine farming in the large production areas of Central and Southern Italy, where wine is still rated and traded according to alcohol levels — not a matter of course. The wines have been certified organic since the beginnings of Adriana and Fausto, i.e. since 1999. Most plants, however, date from 1972 and were planted by Adriana's father. Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Cocciapazza is the most typical of the Azienda's three red wines and comes from the Cocciapazza vineyard. The harvest is carried out in stages, usually in three rounds, during which the grapes are harvested at the correct stage of ripeness - a complex procedure that, however, does justice to the particular microclimate and the grape variety and contributes to the difference compared to the all-too-well-known Montepulciano. Even in its color, the Cocciapazza reveals its volume, which is confirmed by an impressive intensity in the bouquet. Especially on the palate, it looks opulent and exciting at the same time. The tannins are soft and indicate that the grapes are perfectly ripe. All together an impressive wine, with a long, flattering finish.
