About the wine

Family-owned since 1874, Santa Duc is a permanent institution on the southern Rhone and the leading winery in Gigondas. In 1985, the father gave this treasure to his son Yves Gras, exceptional talent, traditionalist, visionary. Returning to the old virtues and with his great terroir wines, he has made a significant contribution to bringing Gigondas out of the shadow of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. For decades, his wines have been reliably among the best in the appellation. They impressively demonstrate that Gigondas not only produce rough, alcoholic and excessive wines, but also fascinating, expressive and rich in finesse.

Tasting note
Ensemble: Wonderfully coherent production, intensive interplay and skilful overdrawing, wild, sweet, meaty, a performance of floral, animalistic notes and not too dark red fruit, behind it the serious basis, ash, moist earth, licorice, anise, undergrowth. On the palate with natural pleasure in interplay, the ironic soft nature, passion without sweetness, the ripe fruit never sweet alone, with highly cultural standards and finesse, fine tannins, tart and ethereal notes, witty, concise acidity, powerful, lean and wild, brown tones, and yet with a calm touch, fresh and playful until the end.
Culinary recommendation
Von den Flaschenpöstlern empfohlen: Châteauneuf du Pape AOC "Habemus Papam" Terroirs Blends harmoniert bestens mit würzigen Gerichten, scharfem Essen und rotem Fleisch.

Selective harvest by hand with renewed grape selection at the table in the cellar. Slow fermentation of the partially stemmed berries, aging for 18 months in 3,600L Stockinger oak barrels and in 800L clay amphoras. Unembellished, unfiltered.
