About the wine

Each Grand Vintage is unique and expresses the personal interpretation of the vintage by the winemaker from Moët & Chandon. In Champagne, 2016 was a year of turbulent weather, full of the twists and turns of nature. The Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage 2016 is the calm after the storm and expresses grace and peace, a harmony created from masterful winemaking and six years of storage in the cellars. Grand Vintage 2016, the 77th vintage in the history of the house, is a sparkling champagne with a round and smooth taste.

Tasting note
[EN] Slightly golden yellow with bright green reflections. The first volatile aromas are brown and dry: toasted bread, grains and hazelnuts. The secondary aromas are softer: gingerbread, marzipan, barley sugar. Finally, the most persistent notes in the background are fruity and floral: plum, mirabelle, quince, orange blossom and anise. On the palate, it is cheerful and round. The sensations unfold effortlessly, like an ending movie scene or a gentle wave rolling over soft sand before gently retreating. The round, smooth start effortlessly turns into a structured, robust impression and culminates in a finish that is reminiscent of the sweet, sparkling freshness of clementine or pomelo.
Culinary recommendation
The prelude of fresh white flowers merges into sweet, blond pastry notes, which are accentuated by fresh walnut, hazelnut and rusks. There are also notes of crisp, barely ripe fruit with aromas such as pear, white peach and nectarine. The first impression is harmonious, smooth and flowing. The cashmere-soft texture then unfolds. The initial sweetness gradually gives way to a more acidic structure, which expands and lasts a long time until the tangy final note becomes noticeable with a hint of iodine, appetizingly accentuated by pink grapefruit.
Vinification
Grand Vintage 2016 tells the story of a turbulent year full of twists and turns, in which we faced the vagaries of nature. The 2016 grape harvest in Champagne reflects the region's traditional unpredictability, with a mild, wet winter and a cool, rainy spring that caused frost and mildew and significantly reduced yields. Despite the water stress in summer, the ripening of the grapes was successful for the Meuniers and Pinots Noirs. The harvest began on September 17 and produced high-quality grapes. The resulting wines show great potential: Meuniers with fruit and excitement, Pinots Noirs with generous fruit and exotic notes, and Chardonnays with fresh citrus notes. This story of sublimation begins with a resolution: The Grand Vintage 2016 expresses grace and peace and emerges from a turbulent harvest year after six years of aging. It is a story of serenity after the storm.
