About the wine
Pioneering spirit that is convincing: Cacciagrande relied on this noble grape variety early on and consistently developed it by variety. The mild climate of Maremma offers ideal conditions and makes it appear rounder and more accessible than in its region of origin. Tasting note
The Castiglione is deep ruby red. On the nose, intense aromas of black fruits, cassis, dried plums, black pepper and light balsamic notes inspire. On the palate, the wine is powerful and full-bodied with lots of dark fruit, light and spicy roasted aromas, lots of melting and velvety tannins. A powerful Maremma wine with a long-lasting, fruit-borne aftertaste.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with hearty meat dishes, barbecues, game and cheese.
Vinification
The grapes for Castiglione come from vines that are rooted 100 meters above sea level on gentle, sandy and barren hills with a south-west slope. After manual harvesting and further sorting at the winery, the grapes are fermented at controlled temperatures in steel tanks. The malolactic fermentation and 12-month aging take place in French barriques and 300-liter tonneaux before the wine is bottled and aged in the bottle for at least 6 more months
