About the wine

Casajús NIC 2018 is a Tempranillo red from Ribera del Duero that stands out for its balance and crafted character. Made from handpicked old-vine grapes and aged carefully in small oak barrels, it delivers a smooth texture and fresh, layered flavors. It’s a great choice when you want an approachable yet refined wine with genuine craftsmanship behind it.

Tasting note
The NIC shines in deep cherry red. On the nose, various aromas of raspberries, fresh strawberries, plums, blood oranges, tobacco, chocolate, licorice and light roasted aromas inspire. On the palate, the wine is meaty and dense with lots of juicy fruit aromas, a wonderful spiciness, velvety tannins, an animating acid structure and a noticeable minerality on the finish. An amazingly elegant Tempranillo, which is awarded top marks by the trade press year after year.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with hearty meat dishes, lamb, beef, pork knuckle, cheese
Vinification
The flagship of Casajù's “NIC” is made from grapes from a 1.5 hectare vineyard called “Montecillo”, which was planted in 1920. The ancient bush grapes only yield approx. 1 kg of highly concentrated grapes per vine. The grapes are picked by hand and fermented in 500-liter French oak barrels and aged for 24 months. This is followed by bottling and further bottle storage. A maximum of 4250 bottles are pressed per year. “NIC” is the abbreviation for Nicolás and Catalina, José Alberto's two children.
