The name of this wine alone “The Way of the Mule Driver” (Camino de los Arrieros) describes a little what kind of project this red wine is about; a rural and unique product. The Arribas del Duero region is located in the western part of the Zamora region, right on the Portuguese border. The Juan García grape variety is native there and produces rather low-alcohol vintages by Spanish standards. The grapes are small-berry, are harvested late and have a very low yield from older vines, such as this 70-year-old Wingert. The scent is thus initially reminiscent of a mixture of Provence and a rustic Burgundian Pinot Noir. Spice, soil, spelt bread, freshly ground coffee, but also violets and Provencal herbs and unripe red berries can be discovered here. This Juan García still needs a lot of air contact, and a few hours of carafe will help him develop more and more. The minerality is present and makes the wine vibrate delicately inside the body. The finish is also elegant and complex. The Camino de los Arrieros is not really pigeonholed up and proves the sure knack of its creator Alvar de Dios to discover the special wine plots and breathe sensual life into them.
