About the wine
The historic town of Calatayud is 600 m above sea level, the old vines even reach up to 1000 m above sea level. In the past, over 45,000 ha of vineyards were cultivated here, in northwestern Spain with an extremely continental climate. A rugged stretch of land that is very similar to Priory. Barren slate soils with cold nights and hot days. Unfortunately, there are only 2,500 ha left today. Master of Wine Norrel Robertson, has set himself the task of bringing the oldest vineyards in the region back to life. For his El Puño, a pure Garnacha that is one of the best in the world according to the English wine magazine Decanter, he spent as many as 6 years looking for suitable locations. The Calatayud region is, so to speak, the Rhone Valley of Spain. The varieties Grenache (Garnacha), Syrah and Viognier feel incredibly at home here, and this climate suits them very well. The grapes ripen very well and build up a beautiful natural freshness, which gives the wines backbone and elegance. The result is astonishingly mineral, elegant wines that frighten their cousins from the Rhône.
