About the wine
It was developed in the second half of the 19th century by a pharmacist from Serralunga d'Alba as a remedy for seasonal ailments. In the Piedmontese tradition, the Barolo Chinato became the most important antidote for many minor ailments, particularly colds. It was drunk as mulled wine, warm and invigorating, and was praised for its antipyretic and digestive properties.
