About the wine

Chiarlo is a traditional family business run by Alberto and Stefano, while father Michele laid the foundations in the 1950s. Although the winery is also known for Barolo and Gavi, the family's heart beats for the Barbera grape. The region around Nizza Monferrato was awarded the DOCG quality seal in 2014, which is mainly due to their pioneering work. The vines planted near Castelnuovo Calcea in 1996 produce exceptionally elegant Barberas that are reminiscent of Burgundy — which elicits a satisfied smile from oenologist Stefano. It is therefore recommended to enjoy this Piedmontese “Grand Cru Barbera” from a burgundy glass.

Tasting note
Ruby red color with garnet reflections. The bouquet is complex and red-fruity, with subtle spicy notes that radiate a pleasant warmth. On the palate, the fruit aromas gradually unfold: cherries, wild raspberries and fine vanilla, complemented by a touch of mint and some cinnamon. The supporting acid provides refreshing juiciness and contributes to a very long-lasting finish.
Culinary recommendation
Ideal for starters such as house pâté or wild terrines, dark mushroom sauces, stews and dark poultry such as duck or guinea fowl. It also goes well with various types of steak, grilled meat and semi-hard and hard cheeses such as Sbrinz or mountain cheese.
Vinification
30 months in barriques
